Swimming...Italian Style

After weeks or temperatures over 30 degrees (and often over 35), we were hanging out to get to a beach. Well, after looking around Florence we came up with the next best thing...a swimming pool.

So a short walk to the station to catch a local bus, a short bus ride, and then a short walk to the middle of a park (Parco della Cascine) we arrived at the fancy named Parco Piscina Le Pavoniere swimming pool. When you first see the pool it hardly looks like one, it looks more like an Italian villa in the middle of the park.

Parco Piscina Le Pavoniere looks more like a villa than a pool

Now all of the photos I have used in this post are from the pools own website. I had a feeling that if I sat in the pool area with my camera and telephoto lens taking photos I would have been thrown out and had the camera confiscated and branded a pervert! We did notice that 99% of women more bikinis whether they were 16 or 66, so another good reason not to be taking photos.

Inside the pool area

We were pleasantly surprised that the pool was far from crowded, they was plenty of room to swim and sunbathe, so we spent a very pleasant day at the pool....one thing we did notice is that you do not burn like we do back home in Australia (where the sun seems determined to burn the skin off your back).

Italian ornate trimmings everywhere

We also sat in the seating area and had a few drinks and eats, well water, ice cream and a fruit salad...it was too hot for booze.

Very civilised eating area

I can see we will be coming back here quite a few times before we leave Florence, a great place to swim and relax.
