A Big Day Out - Part One - Pisa

A few days ago we got a good deal to go to a small hotel in La Spezia on the Internet. So our plans are as follows:

  • Day One - Travel from Florence to Pisa, see the tower, travel from Pisa to La Spezia, check into our hotel, jump on a boat to Portovenere, see Portovenere, jump on a boat back to La Spezia, go out for dinner, go to bed,
  • Day Two - Go to the train station, but daily Cinque Terra cards, see Cinque Terra, return to La Spezia, go out for dinner, go to bed.
  • Day Three - Go to the station, catch a train to Rapallo, catch a boat from Rapallo to Portofino, see Portofino, catch a boat back to Rapallo, catch a trqain to Florence, go out for dinner, go to bed.

A hectic three days have been planned, and today was Day One.

We were up bright and early, had breakfast, got packed, and made our way the to Firenze Santa Maria Nuova, (Florence's main rail station). We bought our tickets to Pisa San Rossore Stazione, the nearest rail station to the leaning tower, and within a short time boarded our train and were on our way to Pisa.

We arrived at Pisa San Rossore Stazione on time. To our surprise only a handful of people got off. After a few fun filled minutes of us all following each other and being unable to find the way out of the station, we sorted ourselves out, looked at maps, iPhones, and anything else we could find, and within minutes were on the right road to the tower.

On the way we got talking to young Ryan and his Mum from Canada who had just been to a wedding in Greece, and were on their way back home, but were doing a quick visit to Italy first, lovely people, it would have been nice to talk to them for longer.

Arriving At The Piazza Outside Of The Tower Walls

Within a few minutes we arrived at the tower, everyone said the farewell's and we all went about out touring of the tower area.

The Amazing Tower

First sight of the tower is very impressive and creates quite an impact.. it is a little bit like walking into a postcard, everything was so nice and neat and clean, it all looked like it had been prepared just for our arrival.

Looks Great From All Angles

It is a great idea to have large grassed areas and to keep people off of the grass, it makes it so easy to take photos.

I think I have got All Three Of Us In The Photo!

It is quite funny to see so many people or doing their own poses of holding up the leaning tower, and you guessed it, we joined in as well.

It's Okay Lesley, It Is Supposed To Lean

After a flying visit to the Leaning Tower Of Pisa we were back off to the nearby railway station and on the next train to La Spezia.
