Shortly, Portovenere came into view. Being quite correct Portovenere is town and municipality consisting of three villages, Fezzana, Le Grazie, and Porto Venere plus the three islands of Palmaria, Tino, and Tinetto...whatever, it looked amazing.

Portovenere Came Into View |
As we came in closer you could make out all of the tall, skinny, multi coloured buildings and the church.

Picture Perfect Portovenere |
Soon we were docked, off the boat and exploring the town.

Portovenere's Little Beach |
Yet another town with a great feel, the weather was just 31 degrees, our coolest day since being on holiday, but there was also a beautiful breeze coming off of the sea that made the day just perfect.

I am surprised I did not get RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) from taking so many photos, or Whiplash for every time Lesley called out "Oh wow, look at that".

Exploring The Lane Ways |
We walked around small Piazza's into the back street of the town up to the Church Of Saint Peter at the end of the little peninsula at the west end of the town. The church was built on top of another older church and was itself consecrated in 1198, amazing. Another point of interest is the use of the cross of St. George which is a symbol of the historical community of Porto Venere and can be seen everywhere.

Apparently, this area was also a favourite haunt of the famous Lord Byron and his family, and plaques can be found all over town for things he has done there.

Doria Castle |
We made our way back along the Esplanade and it was interesting to see what the locals used as a beach area, they might not have sand but that does not stop them.

Sunbathing On The Promenade |
The thing that looks amazing about this town is the narrow, multi coloured, 5 to 6 storey buildings all along the waterfront.
|
Walking Along The Waterfront |
We made our way along the waterfront to a small bar, The Bar Lord Byron of all places, and sat and had a couple of Spritz Camparis and free nibbles.

Spritz Time!!! |
Soon we were back on the boat and thinking about dinner...we had not eaten all day!!
