Mercato Centrale

Just 100 meters away from where we are staying is food market, Mercato Centrale. It has been Florence's central food market since 1874, and sees the area local farmers and producers bring in their wares for sale.

Mercato Centrale

Apparently, due to the springing up of Supermarkets in the area, it has loss some of its gloss compared to times gone by, but it is still worth a visit.

You can find everything from Meat, Seafood, Salamis, Cheese, Wine, Fruit, Vegetable, Pastas, and the list goes on and on.

Looks like Antipasti tonight
The colours of the food market
Pasta anyone?

Lesley was thrilled to find a food fresh food stalls selling Asian produce. On checking what was available we will be able to make things like Thai Red and/or Green Curries, Thai Beef Salad and a few other dishes...it will be a nice change to Italian food. We are thinking of putting a Thai food night on and inviting our hosts, Breditz and Nadja, they are young, keen to travel, and enjoy eating out...it will be interesting to see what they think as they have never eaten this type of food.

This shop sells nothing but Offal
Now that's a good looking Fruit and Veg store
Uummm, I just wanted a bottle of Vinegar

So bags bulging with food we headed back to the apartment to make some lunch.
