This morning we left Toledo and headed to Cordoba. Only minutes after leaving Toledo we had the most amazing view back towards to old town....what an incredible view.

Beautiful View Of Old Toledo Town |
Now we have not written a seperate post about our journey todays as it was quite a boring journey!!!!
Much of the journey was spent driving through fog, and after ten minutes of playing "I Spy", and the clue always beginning with "F" we were getting quite bored. When it was not foggy the landscape was very flat and boring.....hate to admit it but it reminded us of many drives we had been on through Australia.

Fog, Fog, And More Fog |
|
Flat and Boring |
We had some break from the monotony bby spotting the Bull signs that kept telling us how close we were getting to Canada!!!! We will have to look this up and see what it actually means!!

We Arrive At Canada!!! |
|
Wow, Even Looks Like Canada! |
The last part of the journey got better as we hit the hills, but really not too much to write about.
Eventually, we arrived in Cordoba. This time we elected to stay out of the Old Town.....mainly because it is very hard to get a car into the old town, and when you do it is very hard to drive in there. So we stayed across the Rio Guadalquivir with amazing views from our hotel back to the old town.

Walking On The Old Roman Bridge |
A quick, short walk over the bridge and you find yourself at the main attraction of Cordoba, the Mesquita Catedral (the Mosque Cathedral).
|
The Roman Gates Near The Mesquita |
The Mesquita is a massive building and covers a good city block. It is very impressive and really does dominate its surroundings, as you walk around it, it becomes very easy to forget you are in Spain.....suddenly you find yourself thinking you have wandered into Morocco!!
|
View Outside The Mesquita |
Behind the Mesquita is the old Jewish area of Cordoba, and most probably the best area to visit, it is such a mix of different cultures. You are surrounded by 2 to 3 storey whitewashed buildings as you walk through the very narrow roads that only a few drivers are allowed to tackle.....some drivers have the tyres on both sides of their car rubbing against the kerbing as the slowly roll through the old town....not for me thanks!

The Narrow Roads Of Old Town Cordoba |
This evening we headed back into the old town for dinner, there are so many restaurants in such a small area it is ridiculous. We checked out lots of menus earlier todays and the food looks so good here, we could not wait to get tucked into some local dishes tonight.
|
The Old Town At Night |
We settled on one of the Bodega Mezouita restaurants that can be found around the Mesquita.....what a great choice. Instead of Tapas we had a mix of shared dishes with local wines...what great tasting food and wine yet again in Spain!!! We had a plate of local cheeses and marmalades, Stewed Pork in a Cinnamon Sauce, Gaspachio, Deep Fried Eggplant in Pedro Ximinez Sauce...... you can see the Arabic influences in the food here and they are all delicious. As we have found all over Spain, the staff are so friendly and helpful and really make your night out complete.

So yet again we have found ourselves having a great time in another spectacular Spanish location, we are really looking forward to seeing more of Cordoba and tasting more of the food tomorrow.
