Off To Toledo

Looking out of the hotel this morning all we could see was ice covering the street...that was cold enough for me, no need to check the temperature!

After a good breakfast, we were packed in no time, checked out and heading down the road to Toledo.

Goodbye Salamanca

The journey was pretty uneventful for the first half as we travelled at 120kph on the freeway. It was great once we turned off, the countryside changed and we actually had to stop a few times for photos. Shortly after turning of the freeway we came across the amazing town of Avilla with its incredible fortified wall.

From then on we seemed to be driving through some amazing hilly countryside with mountains all around us.

Beautiful Countryside

Just over halfway through our journey we came across the big dammed lake of Embalse Del Burguillo, we stopped a number of times along its length to take a number of beautiful photos.

The further south we drove the more fortresses we came across, some in ruins, and others in perfect condition.

Fortresses Everywhere

About 20 kilometres outside of Toledo we had a bit of fun with the great new road that were not on our GPS...it had a heart attack....we had to drive the last section without it, including finding the hotel in the middle of the old town.....but we did it.

Driving through the narrow streets with the wing mirrors just centre metres from the buildings was a lot of fun...NOT! And the twenty point turn to get into the garage spot took a while as well.

So we had the next day and a half to explore Toledo...it does look an amazing place with its narrow streets and great buildings should be fun!!
