More or Less....who said eating out in Italy was cheap?

I am sure that over the last few posts that I have mentioned that I have been very impressed with eating out prices in Milano, well that was until tonight....boy was I bought down with a crash.

On our walks around the local neighbourhood we found one particular restaurant that lesley really wanted to go to, and as this was our last night in Milano we went around the corner to a great looking eatery called Al'Less.

To me the restaurant name did not sound expensive..think about it!!

What had attracted Lesley to this restaurant was not the menu, but in her words "..the great Italian shabby chic interior..". I must admit the place did look fantastic.

Being a beautiful warm evening, we decided to sit outside.

We were sat ready to eat at 7:30pm, later we found out that the locals do not think about eating before 8pm

I ordered a bottle of local red beer that was recommended to me by the waiter, I later found out that this bottle alone was 17 Euro (about AUS$25), Lesley had some wine also recommended by the waiter, can you see where this bill is heading yet?

I should have realised a bottle this fancy was not going to be cheap!

The meal itself was very nice, between us we had mushroom and sage ravioli in a burnt butter sauce, an unusual but very tasty Veal, Ridicchio, and a strong local cheese dish, a local speciality pasta in a tomato sauce, salad (of course), all rounded off with a very, very rich chocolate mousse and coffee.

Oooooooooh, this was so rich.

The serves were a lot smaller than what we had hoped for but each dish was very tasty, the beer and wine tasted beautiful, but the bill came to 105 Euro (over ASD$150)....we are going to have to economise better than this if we want to stay overseas for as long as we plan......oh well, a lovely night all the same.

Tomorrow we head north to Bergamo.
