Today was our last day in Bergamo, I must admit that I was sad to leave, but excited about moving on to a new place, Lecco. In the morning we said goodbye to the lovely Rina who had looked after us during our stay.
Saying goodbye to Rina |
Today was our first attempt at using the "Regionale" train system. Well we got off to a very good start, I went to the ticket booth and using my best Italian ordered two second class, one-way tickets to Lecco, and guess what, that is exactly what I got!
Waiting at Bergamo Station |
We boarded the train, stacked all of our bags against one seat, sat down, and in no time were heading to Lecco.
Plenty of room for bags |
The trip was simple and took just under an hour, even on this short journey it was interesting to see the landscape change, with more mountains appearing around us the learer we got to Lecco.
We had booked into the Hotel Alberi that was on the lake and on the edge of the older town.
Location, location, location |
Once we had dropped our bags of in our room we decided to do a quick explore of the local area.
Beautiful Views |
Even though it continued to be hot, with temperatures in the mid 30's, we were able to catch the occassional breeze coming across the lake that made it quite pleasant.
Tree lined walks around the lake |
We dropped into the local Pizzeria near to the hotel for a quick bite to eat..pizza and salad, of course.
Pizza time |
That evening we went for a walk in the older town, and came across the beautiful Piazza XX Settembre just behind the hotel with heaps of great places to eat and amazing views.
Piazza XX Settembre |
Of course, we had to eat so this time it was a giant salad each and a glass of local wine. With our energy lifted we walked around the lake at night which is really beautiful.
The old town and mountains |
Walking the lakes edge at night |
So at the end of yet another eventful day it was off to bed.
