Bergamo, here we come....

This morning we said goodbye to Milano, the Hotel San Francisco and the wonderful people that work there. We found that nothing was too much trouble for Carlo who was so very friendly, helpful and accommodating, and seemed to be in reception 24 hours a day, we were also quite fond of Antonietta who greeted us with a big smile and a "bongiorno" every morning at the breakfast table, these two alone were worth another star to the hotels ranking......but it was time to say arriverderci.

Before leaving Australia we had done quite a bit of research into how we could get around Italy, and from all of the information we could find everyone seemed to agree that using buses and trains was a very good, cheap way of travelling.

So this morning we put our plan into action...catch the local bus from the hotel to Milano Centrale Stazione. From there catch a bus to Bergamo airport, and then a local bus to the Upper City (Citta Alta) where we would be saying...the total cost around 15 Euro, the time about 2 hours.......so how did it go? Great, no problems at all, after our arrival debacle at the Milano this was quite a relief.

The Bus Stop outside the walls of Citta Alta

From the bus stop we had an 800m walk through the cobbled streets of Citta Alta to our Bed and Breakfast, B&B La Torre Bergamo (The Tower).

Nearly there, the Tower near the B&B well in sight

We had arrived...our room is on the second floor, with a little flower covered balcony at the front of the building.

We have a great little bedroom with en-suite and views onto an ancient tower.

View from out window down the street

The tower apparently has great views from the top over the Citta Alta, something to put on the to do list while we are here.

View from our window looking at the old tower

Time to go out and do some exploring.
