Thought we might check out the lower and newer part of Bergamo referred to as Citta Bassa and so decidedto catch the funicular part of the way down the hill and walk into the town centre from there.

We were pleasantly surprised at how pretty lower Bergamo is and although more modern, still many attractive old buildings to look at

Wanting to find the local supermarket so we could purchased some fresh fruit and laundry detergent, we asked a lady whom we judged to have come from a supermarket if her shopping bags were anything to go by. She spoke no english and of course we no italian, so she kindly gestured to us to follow her. She actually walked us all the way to the supermarket quite some distance from where we'd met her. She again gestured happy to help and wished us a happy holiday. In no time we were selecting fruit without any difficulty...now for the detergent isle. Not so easy this time buying washing powder turned out to be a bit of an ordeal. I've never stared at so many packets in all my life...couldn't tell whether they were bleach, fabric softener or what. Eventually settled on a small box of Dash?? but suspected I'd purchased the equivalent of preen soak. Oh well it would have to do!
Eventually bussed our way back to Citta Alta, had a lovely lunch and headed to a great little Osteria we had found the day before. Glenn was in his element as he sampled their beers.
