Getting to Verona....just!

Again, we used the "Regionale" 2nd class to get from Lecco to Verona, these trains work fine and it is hard to justify the extra money of 1st class...it is actually hard to see the difference.

Our seats with the luggage strategically stacked.. on our way to Bergamo

This trip turned out to be a little bit more adventurous than we had planned. We had to go from Lecco to Bergamo, swap trains, and then go onto Brescia, and swap trains again for the final leg to Verona. We had a 20 minute gap from arriving in Bergamo and the next train leaving to Verona. Well, things did not quite go to plan and the were a number of delays getting from Lecco to Bergamo, which meant we got to Bergamo at the time the Verona train was leaving. I think there must have been about 10 people other than us in the same situation, so as the train pulled into Bergamo there was a mad dash to grab your luggage and run from one platform to the other....hoping the train was still there.

As it so happened the train was waiting for us with the conductor hanging out of the last carriage encouraging us to go faster......I think Lesley was the last on, and as she boarded the train pulled out

From there it was an easy trip to Brescia and then Verona, although the lack of air-conditioning was hard to take. The poor conductor tried everything to get it going but failed.....boy did the locals give him a hard time.

We arrived in Verona, and a short bus trip were on the edge of old Verona at our apartment we would be staying in for the next week.

View from our bedroom window looking at Castelvecchio

We are ideally situated to explore Verona and have the most amazing view from our bedroom of Castelvecchio, an old middle ages castle built on the top of ruins of an older Roman fortress. The inside was not too bad either, it will suit us well for the week we are here.
