First night in Bergamo

After settling into the room it was time to go and get something to eat and then do some exploring.

de Franco Pizzeria

We decided on a rather nice looking Pizzeria near the centre of town where the waiters looked really smart in their white jackets, but had trouble smiling and did not appear to like tourists..oh, well, the food tasted fine.

After dinner we started to explore around the town and came across a bustling night life, shops and restaurants were open until around midnight, and there were locals and tourists everywhere!

A great looking takeaway was very popular

Each shop was full of people.

A really colourful shop - selling headbands, love the head models!

Each little piazza seemed to be full of eateries and each seemed to have their own form of entertainment in the shape of some busker or small musical group.

This busker kept us entertained with his southern creole music

The central piazza was full of restaurants, each was full with people enjoying the food well into the late hours.

Citta Alta's main Piazza

However, the real entertainment came at 10pm in the form of the church bells that struck over 100 times at this time. It is an old tradition to warn the locals that all of the Upper City's gates were about to close, the tradition continues as do the arguments about how many times the bells actually sound.

The B&B at night

It had been a long day, so it was back to the B&B for a good nights sleep.
