The Last 5 Days In Corfu

There has not been a lot to write about for each of the last 5 days, so I have rolled them into one post.

Basically, we have been hanging out at the pool, swimming, sunbathing, drinking, and eating...yes, we have been doing it hard...lol. We have also had to spend a bit of time on the Internet sorting out some new accommodation for 3 weeks in France after the Gite we were going to flooded a couple of days ago. The down side to the last few days is that we have both been sick...I was ill for a couple of days with a sore throat and runny nose and now Lesley has got it but she seems a bit worse off.

At night times we have been going to the local restaurants and trying more local dishes, always a favourite thing for us to do.

The 9th was Lesley's birthday...the highlight of the day was a Skype session with the family and having grand daughter Michaela sing Happy Birthday to lesley...just beautiful. From there it went downhill, especially when we missed the bus into town so had to eat locally.....

So the 10th became Lesley's Birthday Take Two. We started the day with a boat trip across to Mouse Island, the little island we have been looking out of our window at for the last 12 days.

According to the legend Mouse Island itself was originally formed when the ship that had taken Odysseus back to Ithaca returning to its home port was turned to stone by Poseidon. There are arguments about how the island got it's name, but the logical one appears to be the shape of the stairs winding down from the church look like a mouse's tail.

That evening we managed to catch the bus into town.

Caught It This Time

We had another great night at our favourite little restaurant, that is actually called Bakalogatos......it is named after an old famous Greek film that Spyros has been encouraging us to watch on YouTube, well now that we have sorted out the name we will be able to.

Again, we had great food at Bakalogatos, all local dishes that tasted just great...I think Lesley will be doing some Greek cooking when we get home.

After a great meal we walked around the New Fortress area and gradually made our way back to the bus stop to catch the last bus back to our apartment.

We had had a great day, but Lesley's health took a turn for the worse and she added vomiting to the list of her ailments...boy this bug has really got hold of her.

So the last two days have been taking it very easy with more lounging around the pool, Lesley is battling her cold/flu/plague like a trooper.

Before we say goodbye to Corfu, I have to say what a great host we had in Dimitri at our apartments. He was always happy and always greeted you with a big smile. He had a never ending supply of local wine, and he insisted you have a bottle a day at no cost...I think we drank 4 bottles of white and 1 red while we were there.

Finally, we made our way to the airport after many phone calls to our prepaid lift...boy they were useless!!

After sitting in the airport cafe...outside.. for about an hour a big storm rolled in and knocked out all of the electrics in the airport for half an hour, lucky for us this did not affect our flight so we got away in time.

Within no time we were on our flight, landing at Rome, catching the bus, catching a cab, and arriving at our room at "Sweet Home Colosseum", a small B&B hotel, you guessed it...near the Colosseum....just after midnight!
