Today we headed back into Old Corfu Town for a bit of a look around and to return to the little restaurant we found last time for a late lunch....we have been unable to get an English translation yet, but hopefully soon.
This time we walked from the bus stop in new Corfu straight through to the Southern part of the Spianada. We walked through some very pretty streets that for around midday were remarkably quiet, they were full of places to eat, so I am guessing this area is popular at night, and looks like it will be worth another visit one evening.

We came out onto the southern part of the Spianada with views across to the waters to Anemomilos Pier and a great old Greek Windmill, the southern part of the old fortress (Palaio Frourio).
On the southern side of Palaio Frourio is an old greek looking temple, which is actually a church called St. George, and is the church where Prince Phillip was actually christened.
Walking through the Spianada I had hoped to come across the Corfu Philharmonic having a practice session, but obviously today was not the day.

However, we did come across locals playing cricket which was quite strange to see, but as I said in an earlier post...a left over from the British.... trouble is, the way Australia have been playing recently, this lot would most probably push them for a result!!

We then headed into the town to go get our late lunch. On the way we came across a woman going absolutely beserck at someone else on the end of the phone. I wanted to take a video to send to our son-in-law Tom (Tom is Greek) as I am sure I could have learnt some more great Greek swear words that he has not taught me yet.... but I chickened out. I think the fact that her eyes were bulging, she was foaming from the mouth, and she had changed a strange shade of purple had actually warned me that taking a video of her might not be a good idea!
When we got to the restaurant we got a big smile from Spyros who recognised us from the other day. As we looked at the menu he came across to see if he could help. Lesley noticed he did not have his glasses on...so he could not read what we pointed at anyway....Spyros told us that he likes to NOT wear glasses as it makes him very happy because all of the women who come to his restaurant look no older than eighteen and a half!!! What a character!

We decided to have a light lunch consisting of a very big Greek salad, Tirokaftera (a really tasty dip consisting of melted goats cheese, peppers, parika, and yoghurt), Spanaki sto Tigani (spinach, garlic, and peppers). I had some more of the Corfu Brewery beer, this time a very clean Ionian Pilsner...Lesley had a nice white wine that they serve here, the funny thing is they do not use fancy carafes or bottles, they bring it in a metal mug...they do actually bring you a glass for you to pour it into....thank goodness. Again, the locals kept dropping in for drinks and something light to eat..this time a few other tourists had made their way here, so others have found that this place serves great food as well!

After another delightful meal we made our way through the town to a little grocers that we quite like, and of course our Greek Dessert supplies shop for more honey soaked pastry delights.
