This post is all about the food market at the park called Saint-Antoine that runs along the banks of the River Saone just 100m away from our apartment......I think I should have called this post..."Lesley's Idea Of Heaven!!! ". Talk about a kid in a candy store, she just loved it.
The market runs to just after midday every morning except for Monday (they get a day off) and consists of local producers, growers, importers, butchers, bakers, fish mongers, farmers, wine makers/resellers...the list goes on and on...what a brilliant way to shop each day...beats the supermarket hands down!!!
Entering The Market |
We headed down there first thing.....about 10am.....hey, we sleep in a lot, this is early!
The Best Way To Go Mushrooming |
The great thing about being in Lyon at this time of year is that there are not many other tourists around, you only have the locals to deal with, and they are quite civilized and friendly, and as it is a week day the numbers are very easy to deal with.
Get To The End and Go Back Through |
The big problem I have in markets like this is the smells!!........The fresh baked bread, the cooking sausages, hams, and chickens, the fresh fish, the incredible smelling cheeses, the cakes.....I just become a drooling mess and my stomach takes over the shopping list....forget what we need for tonights meal....I want food, and I want it now!!! Lucky Lesley is in control of her senses and gets the food we need while I sneek off and buy a slab of quiche and a great looking cake...just for a little snack! There is one patisserie store that has become my "dealer" in my drug of dependency...cake!!
Lesley Talks To The Patisserie Lady |
I must admit, for someone who does not particularly like shopping, I love going to this market....but I am sure Lesley could stay there all day checking out the produce, the foods and having a chat with the vendors that can speak a little bit of English.
So we have agreed we will be here most mornings and will definately not miss the Saturday market that they tell us is twice the size, can't wait!
