Lyon - Around Our Neighbourhood

We have a great little apartment down the narrow one way lane of Rue Lanterne that lies on a narrow piece of land in the centre of Lyon between the River Soane and the River Rhone. The whole area has a really good feel and it looks like we will have a great time in Lyon.......which is good after last nights dismal start.

Our apartment is a nice little fourth floor apartment.....don't talk to Lesley about that, she is having a great time up and down all of those stairs.....as I keep telling her "Just imagine how fit you will be in 2 weeks time"... I don't think she is buying that one at all!

One interesting thing....we have a lot of art on the wall...it is part of the Lyon Art Festival, and people will be coming in for a couple of hours each Saturday afternoon to view it.....talk about getting the most out of your apartment investment!!......holiday rental, art gallery.....I wonder if the sex shop ever use it?????

Our Lyon Apartment

Apparently, the art on display is by a world famous German artist named Gregor Hildebrandt. He records songs on tape then cuts up the tape to make the art....the song always has something to do with art theme that it is applied to.........interesting, but still not enough to turn me into an art appreciator...give me food any day.....yes, I know, I am a Philistine!

Art By Gregor Hildebrandt.

The one big thing that Lesley hates about this apartment is the 6 flights (90 steps) we have to go up to get to it

Ta Da!!!! The Front Door

The section of the Rue Lanterne (about 70m long) that we are staying in has restaurants, bars, and cafes at either end.....good news for us, a few art shops on either side of the road, a jazz club a couple of doors down the street, and two very well placed sex shops directly opposite!!!!!

Great Little Cafe/Bar At One End
Trendy Burger Joint At The Other End

Tonight it was very noisy out in the street, something must of "overheated" in one of the sex shops and half of Lyons fire brigade attended....but they did not seem that interested in the shop as they all had a great time catching up with each other!!

Fire Down Below!!!!??

Only a couple of hundred metres away is a great restaurant/cafe/bar area....we will be visiting there a few times I am sure.

Heaps Of Places To Eat

There are some great old buildings all around us.

Eglise Saint Nizier

As well as the rivers and apparently a few very good food markets most mornings, and one very big one along the banks of the River Saone in amongst the trees, should be good!

The River Saone, Downstream
The View Up The River Saone To Crois-Rousse On The Hill
Tree Lined Rivers Edge

I can see that we will be hitting the markets most mornings to get our fresh food supplies...starting tomorrow!
