Eating My Words.....Saint Jean de Cole

As we came into Saint Jean de Cole it was obvious why this little village is listed on France's Most Beautiful Villages, and it was also obvious that I was to continue eating my words about not finding any more beautiful towns in this region.

So at the first chance we parked the car and walked into the older parts of the village.

Little Side Lanes

As we walked around the old buildings seemed to have new roads and paths running between them. We came across the workmen building these amazing old material roads, paths, and drains using original materials...their work really makes this place look amazing.

We came out into a square, more open than ones we have seen previously, but just as impressive. On one side was an old church with a clock tower, in front of that was an old medieval covered area...they must do a lot of maintenance work in this place as everything looks so good.

On another side was an impressive looking chateau.

At one end of the square was an open area with a little road leading down to an old bridge and the river.. The bridge must be ancient, it just looked so old, and the roadway across was made of these amazing cobbles, not that easy to walk across, but looked fantastic.

As we walked across the bridge we realised that the building we had just walked past was actually the old water mill...everything around here is so picture book, I love it.

We explored the other side of the river for a short while. We soon realised we had seen most of the village, so we worked our way back to the car taking as many different lane ways as we could so as to make sure that we did not miss anything.

Walking down the lanes, we came across an area that must have been older as there were quite a number of old wooden medieval buildings that had been beautifully restored.

We had a wonderful time exploring the village of Saint Jean de Cole, it was really beautiful. We are now starting to think there are still so many more places to see that will be equally beautiful as what we have seen over the last few days.....We both agree that every day is turning into a spectacular adventure..we cannot wait.
