Touring Barcelona Looking At Gaudi

Well, it had to happen sooner or later.....today we became fully fledged tourists....we booked our seats on the Barcelona Bus Turistic!! Barcelona is quite a big city, and many of the places we wanted to visit are spread all over the city, so it seemed the logical thing to so.

Today was a beautiful day...clear blue skies, the sun was out, and the expected top was 10 degrees!!!! And here we were sitting on the top deck of an open roof double decker bus.....idiots!!!

Lesley Not Convinced Sitting Up Here Is A Good Idea

For a number of sites we stayed on the bus and took photos from there, after all we had a lot to see, and a day to see it in, others we got off to have a good look around. The first part of the tour took in many of the buildings designed by the amazing architect, Antoni Gaudi.....born in 1852, I would have to say that this guy was years ahead in his thinking and designs...they still amaze today!

Beautiful Architecture...Not Gaudi.
Nice Towers...Also Not Gaudi.

Soon we came to the utterly amazing Roman Catholic Church, Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família. At the time of Gaudi's death only one quarter of this building had been completed....construction and maintenance continues today....it is impossible to get a clear photo of the basilica without cranes and construction works, but is still magnificent to look at.

Shortly after we arrived at the stop for Park Guell, a park designed by Gaudi..... We had to get off at this stop!!! It was a 10 minutes walk up a decent hill to get to the park, but so very much worth it!! I am sure that many people would be happy with just taking photos at the entrance with the amazing buildings guarding the entry, but there is so much to see inside....so we bought our tickets and spent the next hour or so taking in this amazing park.

There were quite a few people exploring the park today, but if you waited a short time you would always get a great photo.

Looking Across The Park

When you get to the big area surrounded by the beautiful mosaic benches you have a fantastic view across the whole of Barcelona all the way to the Mediterranean Sea.

We walked all over the park, taking in very inch of it....we loved it. It seemed that every part of the park had lovely views either of the city, or over other aspects of the park and its buildings.

Quite a few parts of the park had been built up with amazing stonework that created bridges, tunnels, walkways, and walls and were quite spectacular.......I can see Lesley's garden design ideas are going to be quite costly when we get back home!!!

Amazing Stonework Everywhere!!

Towards the top of the park is a Gaudi House Museum with its own lovely gardens.

Eventually we tore ourselves away from Park Guell, made our way back down the hill, and jumped on the bus to continue our tour of Barcelona.
